How to Leave Your Mark: The Cold Glass of Water

Table of Contents

When a cold glass of water sits on a table, it leaves a mark. A ring. Condensation. A reminder: Water was here.

It didn’t shout. It didn’t work. It simply did what it does—refresh.

As leaders, that’s our job too. To leave a mark—not through force or ego, but through presence. Through clarity. Through refreshing others with our words, energy, and example.

But here’s the key: The glass leaves a mark because it’s cold.

And what keeps it cold? Ice cubes.

Ice cubes are the “inputs” that keep the glass cool and refreshing. Without them, the glass goes warm, the condensation stops, and the impact fades.

What Are Your Ice Cubes?

In other words…

What practices, rhythms, or inputs keep you at your best?

Because you can’t refresh others if you’re running on empty.

Start here:

  • Is it meditation that grounds you before the noise starts?
  • Is it exercise that gets your energy and mood back on track?
  • Is it affirmations that remind you of who you are?
  • Is it music, movement, or solitude?
  • Is it a conversation with a coach or mentor who sees the best in you?

Do what you do to be the clearest, calmest, sharpest version of you.

Not just for your sake. But because you’re called to refresh others—your family, your team, your clients, your community.

And that requires input. It requires intention.

Don’t Just Work. Leave a Mark.

Be the kind of leader whose presence lingers…With wisdom, vision, encouragement, peace.

Let your conversations leave clarity. Let your leadership leave courage. Let your life leave hope.

Like a cold glass on a warm table.

You don’t need to say, “Look at me.” You just need to stay refreshing.

And your impact will speak for itself.
